Exclusive First Drive: 2025 Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
Suzuki’s electric era begins with a familiar badge — the all-new e-Vitara, unveiled globally in Milan and built proudly in India.
UK-based Auto journalist Shahzad Sheikh delivers the world’s first drive impressions from London for us, offering a glimpse of what’s next for Suzuki’s electrified future. The e-Vitara isn’t just an SUV — it’s India’s global EV calling card.
Originally previewed by the futuristic eVX concept at the 2023 Auto Expo in India, the production e-Vitara transforms that vision into a ready-for-the-road electric SUV that’s set to go global — with India at its heart.

Built at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, the e-Vitara serves as the global production hub for this all-electric SUV. From here, the first shipment of 2,900 units has already set sail for 12 European nations, including the UK, Germany, France, Norway, and the Netherlands. Eventually, this made-in-India EV will electrify roads in over 100 countries, including Japan and, of course, the Indian domestic market.
The e-Vitara is expected to be launched in India this month.
The tech story in the Suzuki e-Vitara

Everyone’s been talking about Chinese EVs, Korean tech and Japanese reliability — but here’s something new: an electric SUV that brings all three together… in India. 🇮🇳⚡
This is the Suzuki e-Vitara — Suzuki’s first global EV, designed and built right here in Gujarat, using some very clever tech from across Asia.

Suzuki engineered a New EV architecture.
Unlike some brands that shove a battery into an old petrol shell, Suzuki built this from scratch on its HEARTECT-e platform — a brand-new, purpose-engineered EV architecture.
It’s lighter, stiffer and designed for proper safety, with the battery mounted low in the floor for a lower centre of gravity and better crash protection.
Suspension, NVH and steering are all tuned for Suzuki’s trademark lightness and durability — the same qualities that made the Swift and Vitara household names.
Now here’s the twist — the battery is sourced from BYD, the Chinese EV giant, using their famous Blade Battery technology.
That means lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry — no cobalt, no nickel, and a structure that’s far safer than most conventional packs.
It resists overheating, handles impact better, and lasts longer — a smart, cost-effective solution for India’s hot climate and rugged conditions.
Two options are available: 49 kWh or 61 kWh.
Power? Up to 174 bhp and 193 Nm for the 2WD, or a muscular 307 Nm in the dual-motor ALLGRIP-e AWD — giving you real 4×4 traction, not just marketing spin.
The system runs on a 400-volt architecture, which means it’s compatible with most public fast chargers.
You can go from 10 to 80 per cent in about 45 minutes on DC, or charge overnight on a standard 7 kW wall box.
And while you’re waiting, there’s even a ‘My Room’ mode — letting you chill inside with the AC, music or ambient lights on.
Basically, it’s a car that says: why stand outside when you can vibe inside?
Now, let’s talk competition.
Yes, BYD, MG, and Tata are leading in different spaces — but Suzuki’s strategy is unique.
Instead of chasing big numbers or fancy screens, it’s focused on reliability, efficiency and affordability.
By combining Japanese engineering, Chinese battery tech and Indian manufacturing, Suzuki’s built something truly global — but priced for the real world.
So this isn’t just another EV launch.
It’s proof that India is now a serious player in the global electric game — not just as a market, but as a manufacturing powerhouse.
The Suzuki e-Vitara shows what happens when Gujarat builds it, Japan designs it, and China powers it — a proper Asian alliance on wheels.
